Introduction

Saponification is the soap making process, which uses the basic solution lye and different types of fats. The science behind soap making is in the structure of the fats, the properties of the lye, and the chemical reaction that produces cleaning molecules. Not only is it a process that uses science, but it's also just a fun activity to make your own soap with the properties that you want.

    • You can use 30gm of coconut oil instead of the mixture of oils , the observation would be that the lather is very less.

    • You can decrease the amount of NaOH to and find that the soap looks too oily and not dry enough, even after a couple of days.

    • Increase the amount of oil and you will find that the soap is too oily and wouldn't lather.

    • Increase the amount of NaOH, you will find that the soap is too hard.

    • You can change the fragrance of oil for a different fragrance.
