Introduction

Cut a one litre PET bottle in two. Make a hole in the cap and insert a wick made from old cloth. Add some water to the bottom part of the bottle and place the top part upside down such that the wick is immersed in water. Fill the top part with coco peat or soil and grow a plant/plants.

    • Handle the scissors/cutter with care.

    • Wash your hands after handling the cocopeat.

    • Mark three points on the bottle cap.Using a pair of scissors, pierce through these points to make three holes.

    • Insert a piece of cotton cloth into each hole

    • Pull the cloth through the holes a little bit, and screw the cap on as shown.

    • If you find it difficult to pull the cotton cloth through, wet it first - this should make it easier.

    • Invert the top part of the bottle, and place it on the bottom part (look at the picture for reference).

    • Now pour the soil in the top part of the bottle, so that around half of it is full.

    • Lift the inverted top part and add water into the bottom bottle, until the ends of the cloth pieces are completely immersed.

    • Plant given seeds in the cocopeat.

    • Estimate the amount of soil and water according to the size of the bottle.

    • As long as the seeds are completely set in the soil, and the cotton cloths are partially submerged in the water, it should be okay.

    • Observe the soil everyday for the next few days, and you will see little sprouts turn into wonderful plants!

    • If there isn't enough cocopeat / soil to fill half the bottle, just add more of it.

    • If the cotton cloth pieces are not submerged in water because they are not long enough, just cut the bottle to make it shorter or use new cotton pieces.

    • If the cloth isn't absorbent, change it into another type.

    • Make sure to plant adequate number of seeds (4-6) so that at least a couple of them germinate.
