Introduction

A periscope is an instrument for observation over an object, obstacle etc that prevents direct line-of-sight observation from an observer's current position.

    • Scissors have functional sharp edges. Contact may result in injury. Always keep blades away from fingers and body. Handle with care.

  1. Take a printout of periscope template attached below.
    • Take a printout of periscope template attached below.

    • Place two templates, page 1 towards your right side and page 2 towards your left side, as shown in the image and join them using clear tape on the plain side.

    • Apply paper glue on the template.

    • Paste the template on A3 size cardboard sheet.

    • Cut along the dotted lines.

    • Crease along the solid bold lines using a scale as shown.

    • Flip the template, fold along the creased lines as shown.

    • Make the template into a box by joining the same numbered flaps/sides together, e.g, 1 joins to 1.

    • Paste the flaps together using glue.

    • Now the body of the periscope is ready.

    • Cut along the dotted .

    • Fold along solid bold lines.

    • Now, take the flap and fold 'C' strip onto 'B' strip, 'A' strip onto 'B' strip , you will get a double up strip.

    • Paste it using a paper glue.

    • Fold along solid bold lines.

    • Using paper glue, paste the 5cm by 5cm mirror onto the square where flaps are attached as shown.

    • Repeat the same procedure to make another mirror holder and peel of the transparent sheet attached onto the mirror.

    • Match the numbers on controlling flaps and the periscope, join them together with help of insulation tape.

    • Tape the controlling flaps to the body of periscope on both outter edge and inner edge.

    • Take a printout of protractor scale and cut along the outline of the scale as shown using scissors.

    • Glue the protractor scale to the periscope as shown.

    • Now, insert the controlling flaps through the rectangular slits made.

    • Follow the same procedure to attached another mirror hold onto the tube.

    • Consider the lower opening as the eye piece and the other opening as the objective.

    • Place the eye piece near your eye and adjust it, until you see a image on the objective mirror.

    • Try varying the angle of objective mirror and look at the image.

    • With help of the periscope , look at a object. ( here we are looking at upper knob of the window).

    • Note down the angle of eye piece mirror and angle of objective mirror with help of the protractor scale attached inside.

    • vary the distance between the person viewing and the object, try viewing same object again and note down the angle.
